Aurelia is currently completing a MA in Curating Contemporary Art at The Royal College of Art, in addition to being a painter in London. She previously studied at the University of St Andrews, receiving an MA (Hons) in Art History. Prior to this, Aurelia studied painting at Camberwell College of Art (UAL). Her theoretical and historical studies inform her artistic practise and the themes and methods she chooses to explore.
Aurelia's work primarily revolves around colour and form, which is explored in varying manners of abstraction. The immediacy and emotive capabilities of strong combinations of colour can be used to generate fantasies which are individual to each viewer. She stylises natural forms, animals and figures, to produce subject matter and inspire narrative in their interpretation. She is particularly interested in the relationship between music and art and the intermediality of sonoric and visual expression. The series of paintings she is currently working on is based on Franz Liszt’s Transcendental Études. Although they range in scale, her paintings can often be large, amplifying their immersive nature. Whether it is an energising piece, or one that is more tranquil, she aims to lift the mood of the viewer through escapism and the construction of fantasy realms. |
